Gun Storage Socks, Bore Stores, Etc.

I was always a huge fan of the product Bore Stores for putting my handguns in for short term storage in the safe. I must have over 50 of them. I have to stack the guns in a pile because of lack of storage space and the Bore Stores had enough thickness to prevent damage to the finish.

Just recently I needed to purchase 2 more new ones. I knew the company changed hands but everything appeared to be the same product as before. I was very disappointed in the new product I received. The thickness of the material was less than acceptable. I will never purchase them again.

Is there a product on the market today that is on par with the Bore Stores of old?

I also use SackUps for both handguns and most of my long guns.

Pistols go into a SackUp and then into a box from ProtectaGun with the label on the end of the box and rust prevention paper lining the bottom of the box. Am I going overboard? Possibly but safe dings stink.

I find the SackUps site confusing; however, they are very nice in the phone. Pro tip: the “rim fire” rifle socks are perfect for most lever actions.

A picture that I could post wouldn't clarify the difference as the appearance is the same. In hand is where i could tell the new product is extremely thin. It's easy to see light through them.

I'm sure they are perfect for what they are intended, but just like everything else, "new & improved" sucks.

I think I'll look for a sewing machine, can't be that difficult to make.

I definteily was a Bore stores believer and have many. … but I haven’t acquired any new ones in several years. Didn’t know they changed hands and product too, so it sounds like.
the original is so thick that I too could stack some guns without worry of dings and scratches.
theyve never been that cheaply priced, imo , but they were worth it to me for the added protection and additional storage space by using them.
i have no reason to doubt that Beecher’s assessment of the current Bore Store product is correct. Sad to hear that about the new ones. I will not be purchasing any more either.

I buy pistol sleeves from the source below. This fabric traps moisture before it reaches the gun. Collector's Firearms uses this same product.

I never had any problems with Bore Stores, I liked that they are breathable and they used to be thick enough to offer some protection when guns were stacked on the shelf or moved around within a safe. Too bad they went the cheap route. Are they still made in the USA ?

Regarding Crown Royal bags, they aren't easy to find at liquor stores but they made smaller ones with small bottles of the Canadian Whisky inside and they work perfectly to house extra cylinders for guns like Colt Peacemakers, Ruger Singles Sixes or USFA's, etc. I found a seller on ebay that sold a half dozen for some very reasonable amount and that should be a good place to check.

Hi I own the company and when we first got going, the first mill I used make the material, the fabric we received was extremely thin to what we want. I have since then, swapped mills and I can assure you they are just like they are supposed to be thickness wise. I hope you will reconsider. We are still in the same place in the Ozarks of Arkansas. I will send you the newer cases for you to compare if you would like with no money needed. email me at gtoutdoorsllc@yahoo.com

Thank you for the information on the material thickness, and I will take your most generous offer to compare the up graded product. I'll send an email shortly with my information. Also, I will post my opinion of the new & improved product here.
