Any help with identifying the providence of this 1851 Navy . It was shipped to Landcaster Pa in 1861 as a lot of 100 . It was purchased by Union solider with the initials T.B. ( they are carved in the LEFT grip bottom ) on the inside of the grip is a pencil signature that is unreadable. Logic dictates that the buyer was most likely a Pennsylvania resident who enlisted . On the right grip bottom are the initials TK with pencil signature that appears to be Thomas Kirk ( which could be short for Kirkpatrick, King ,or keen ) or some other 4 or 5 letter last name you can read CSA can’t make out the rest )
The information I was given states it belonged to a confederate Capt who removed it from a union soldier from Pennsylvania, who was sent to POW Camp . The Confederate soldier survived the war and died in old soldiers home in Va in 1918. I was told the Confederate soldier was in Army of Northern Va probably Calvary and fought in 18 , 26 or 28 battles including Gettysburg , Petersburg , Wilderness among others .Unfortunately the former owner has passed so that’s a dead end so to speak . SN 111940 Made 1861 .
I travel for living and I am gone 320 to 340 days a year, therefore , I have no available pictures at this time . All I have is a Colt letter and some sketchy notes that are the source of what I do know, so any help or suggestions would be appreciated be greatly appreciated . Thanks
