I've been trying to locate one of these for a few months now and haven't seen one anywhere. Is this variant even being produced yet? I'd hate to wait too long - my NJ permit expires in 3 months :) --Rich

They've just hit the distribution channels. CDNN had some...I snagged one before they ran out. I should have it by mid-week I hope.

like other forum members said, became available very recent for purchase just this month in the last week or so. I’d watch Sportsman’s warehouse and Brownells very closely and also check gun.deals regularly. That will show the online places it’s in stock. It can lag a few hours sometimes, so that’s why I sporadically check Brownells and sportsman’s warehouse. Theyre the prefererred big box dealers for Colt that seem to get stock first, and the stay no more than msrp usually. Expect to pay at least msrp unless stock really picks up, or everybody decides that the extra vent on the 6” barrel makes this .22 totally un-shootable Or is just too ghastly to view with human eyes.
i did kick the hornets nest there didn’t I ? :)

mine delivers today/tomorrow from Grabagun.

There are several on Gunbroker, but you may not be pleased. Like the 4.25 barrel version there are more vents than a Diamondback ,. 4 instead of 3, and instead of wood grips , they have the cheapo rubber grips.

I just got mine at my LGS. They’re a stocking Colt dealer and do a good job of keeping Pythons, King Cobras and Anacondas in stock. They got two of the 6” .22’s in and sold both of them on the same day, one of them to me. I’ve put about 450 rounds through it in the last few days and it’s an excellent shooter.

Here’s a trip once around the cylinder at 25 yards with Federal 36 grain HVHP ammo (plinking ammo, basically).

edited to add: I find the fiber optic bead a little distracting for real target work. I might actually take the brass bead off of my Cobra and put it on the King Cobra .22. The FO sight might be more welcome on the snubby. I think with better sights and ammo, the King Cobra is a 1” 25 yard gun.

The DA pull is 9lbs and smooth and the SA pull is 3 lbs, 12-14 oz but very crisp with no creep and little overtravel. I’d like to get the SA pull down to 2.5-3lbs if possible. The narrow trigger accentuates the weight to some extent. No complaints for a factory trigger though! Colt has it all over S&W lately in the out-of-the-box trigger department. Thinking about sending it to Frank Glenn for a “massage.” It doesn’t really need it but it would make an excellent gun even better. Wish list items would be a wider target hammer and trigger set, and maybe Wilson sights? Wilsons should fit but I have seen a few reports of them not mating perfectly.

I sent my first one to Frank. He gave me a crisp 3 pound s/a pull, which was exactly what I asked for. At the time, he said there wasn't too much he could do with the double action pull. The Wilson rear sight is not made to fit this gun, but a gunsmith can make it fit. Later on, a non-related problem developed with my King Cobra .22, resulting in Colt replacing the gun.

Diamondback stocks should fit...nt a guarantee as there's sometimes dimensional differences...but technically they should.

Nice to see Colt finally getting the 6" KC's production going and out for purchasing. Have been waiting in the wings for a 6" vs the 4" but have been tempting a few times to go with the 4". Only thing stopping me and will still do so is the numerous internal failures/breakages that have been reported by buyers of the 4" especially with the hammer/main spring link. Maybe I missed some report here on this forum or on others or by an announcement from Colt, but have they rectified this problem? I know not all owners have experienced this, but I don't want to buy and just hope one I would purchase would be free from any of the reported failures. Ya, you can send back to Colt, but are they fixing the problem or just replacing parts that have an inherent weakness that may fail again? I would hope those at Colt would want to fix any inherent weakness and not do a 'band-aid' solution.

Just picked up my 6" KC Target yesterday...date of manufacture of 01/31/24 so it's a two week old infant! Colt is really shipping their new stuff with a fair amount of oil on them that's for sure. The blued Python was really oiled up...this King Cobra slightly less so. First impressions...flawless assembly and appearance. The trigger pull is slightly heavier than I would prefer but smooth. I expect it should improve with a break-in period. My only criticisms are subjective...it needs a wider target hammer and a trigger slightly wider and more contoured...but that's just a personal preference. What's there is certainly serviceable for the purpose.

As purchased...

nice !!
i noticed my new 6” KC is about a full pound heavier trigger pull than my 4.25”.
i Haven’t shot or cleaned the 6” yet, so who knows if it might improve a little with some use.
the excessive oil is what caused the QR codes not to be any good on both my new blued pythons . It was good on my KC 6” .22. .. from memory, I believe it read 1/23
Hopalong and I got new Cobras about the same time back in 2017. The QR codes were a few days apart. that was when the QR coded tags were new to us, so I called Colt and our guns actually had the same manufacture said Colt Customer service. We were figuring out that the tags /QR codes are created sometime during the build process.
so it’s possible that our new KC 22’s shipped out same time to different places with the same Colt manufacture date.

anyway, these new KC .22’s are the best looking stainless snake guns so far, imo, with the rubber stocks replaced.

And thanks to you for telling me the vendor had some in stock! They were sold out by the end of that day.

As I penned in post #23 it's good to see Colt producing the 6" KC 22. Also asked the question if Colt had fixed the numerous hammer/mainspring link breakage problems as I haven't seen many posts on this forum or any others or any announcement from Colt that they have rectified the problem. Any information on this or is Colt satisfied with just having buyers send in their KC's when breaking rather than do the right thing and fix the issues with KC's?

Congrats! I have the 4.25" version, and one accessory I highly recommend is Speed Beez speed loader and loading block. You can pre load the block with 100 rds, close the lid and toss it in the range bag. Easy way to replenish the speed loader quickly for more shooting fun, less wasted range time.

Got my 6” KC22 a week or so back. I swapped grips with my 4” KC357 Target. The rubber grips are better for me on the .357. Here’s a pic comparing my 6” blue Diamondback 22 to it. The KC22 also has a “Elliason” Kensight swapped on.

Did the Kensight require fitting?
