Apparently, Colt is going to release a matte blue Python soon in 2.5, 3, and 5”.

Only Stock Photos for now.

Colt wants to sell more Pythons by opening up its market...I get that. But to me...it just dilutes the Python DNA.

Apparently, Colt information is
not always accurate.

In April, they announced the Pythons with 8, 5, 3, and 2.5 inch barrels in blue will be released in 2025. The 4.25" and 6" were released in 2024.

They have released all barrel lengths except the 2.5" blue. And, one will have a little trouble finding the 3" and 5" ones anywhere.

I called CS in Aug. and they told me Colt were set to make two runs of 2.5" blued Pythons in Sept., one run in the first week and another one in the last week. This was complete BS.

I called them again this week and was told they are going to "make a batch" in Oct. How many constitute a batch?

So now, they are signaling more Python finish variations coming out when they haven't even produced all the variations they announced in April?

I don't trust their website info or CS people. I have been waiting for them to make a blued 2.5" Python since late 2023.

All matte Pythons, whether blue or stainless are ugly to me. They are the antithesis of what a Python really is. Unrefined, to say the least.

I apologize to you, Dan, for muddying up your thread, but I am really disgusted with Colt about this.

I could stomach a bead blasted nickel or stainless, I suppose. A flat finish on an otherwise blue Python just kills it for me, as in, subverts the entire concept of the revolver. Who comes up with this crap?
I would much prefer a beat up (legend) blue 4" in unmolested factory condition. My main requirement is that it be intact and can be made serviceable. It could happen........

Who comes up with this crap?
The same people who came up with “New Coke”, a new and improved “Bud Light” commercial, and the since deleted new “Cracker Barrel” sign. As for the new matte Python there will be a market with the truck gun crowd.
Cracker Barrel could have gone a different way with less pushback had they used this as their new logo.

When people discuss the older Pythons, one of the things most discussed is the beautiful, polished finish. This matte finish just makes it look incomplete.

To make a comparison, it's like a fancy new sportscar, but instead of a proper paint job, it has nothing but dull primer paint.

I understand that there might be a few who like it, but I tend to agree with SnidelyWhiplash - it dilutes the Python DNA.

I’d rather see Colt produce the Python in .22LR and/or .22 Magnum. The revolver would certainly be heavy…but it would also be a magnificent shooter.

Just bought a 3 inch slightly used 2020 Python and ordered a pair of what look to be original Colt gray Combat Elite grips for it. Kinda weird as I had just watched Hickok45’s old review of the 3 inch Python Combat Elite that he had bought. I also handled one of those cuties today at the Silver Dollar Pawn in Ramseur on the way home. A very pretty piece. I do like stainless. Can’t see where matte blue could work on a Python or Anaconda though. But I bet they would be cheaper to manufacture.

A matte finish may be more practical for a working firearm, but I agree it turns the new Pythons into just another mass-produced revolver. What made the original Pythons special is no longer present in the new ones.

The Python has gone from being Colt's premier offering meant for discriminating buyers to merely their flagship product being sold to everyone. It's like Ford with their Mustang. We all remember it as the pony car, and then the classic RWD, V8 musclecar. Now it's an EV/SUV as well. Absolutely nothing like the original car we all knew and loved. But... Ford owns the badge and they can put it on anything they want. Tradition is no longer profitable.
