That is a sleek looking rifle. It looks very light but maybe the piston adds weight?

We would all love to see the insides! Bolt, receiver, piston….. etc.

 

No piston, it's di. Standard bolt and everything. The big thing is the ambi lower and the upper is extended so that the rail bolts directly to the upper instead of to the barrel nut.

 

Yes, this is a newer model that came out around 2022.

I love my M5! Yes it is a DI system.

 

I wonder if Colt patented that lower's forging and if not, how long before it migrates throughout the "AR" market.

I have been eye balling one of these.
How does it feel shooting compared to say a 6920?

 

I don't have a 6920 so can't compare but I'm left handed so this is way better for me.

 

As far as “Feel” compared to a 6920, I don’t feel any noticeable difference when shooting. They are both the same Carbine Length DI gas systems. After 300 rounds my M5 is showing very good accuracy out to 200 yards so far. Very comparable to my older 6940.

 

Does yours have a pronounced Mold Seam on the front of the Mag Well ?

Congratulations on your M5 purchase. Don't be discouraged that you got the 1st gen bolt catch release. They are now out of production and has been replaced. Essentially, you now have a collectors piece. I am a fan of the M5 design and need to get more range time in with it. I look forward to hearing your future experience with it.

 

M5 = another step away from the “randoms”.

I myself am not liking the 747 charging handle , but an easy change .

Well I've changed almost all the furniture. Now have a Magpul MOE grip and a B5 SOPMOD Enhanced stock. Did not like the troy sights much, too big of a rear aperture. Then tried a KAC 200-600M rear because I wanted tool less windage and elevation adjustment, it was okay but I wasn't crazy about it and it scratched the crap out of the upper where the post lays when folded down. Finally found these Magpul Pro Long Range sights and am very very happy with them. Now to start saving up for an aimpoint and a light.
