Thanks for that comparison. I'm very new to the 1911 thing and enjoy reading everything Colt. I just purchased a new stainless GCNM yesterday but haven't picked it up. I would prefer one of the older models (I like old stuff) but being new to the 1911 I feel I don't know enough to evaluate a used gun. This one will be my first 1911 45 so I think it's a good place to start. Threads like these are very helpful to someone like me who is feeling their way along in the 1911 world. Jim

Sometimes you wonder what goes into decision making at Colt. They have a series 80 Gold Cup Trophy for those who like the Trophy features. You are making a Series 70 Government Model for those who like the Series 70, so , if you are going to go retro with a Gold Cup National Match, and you have a 70 Series to work with , why not bring back an exact replica of a 70 Series Gold Cup National Match? And since alot of people like the WW2 look Gi 45, why not bring back a regular production WW2 !911 A1? Go figger

Either one of those would be a huge seller. I'm not sure Colt has really pursued the 1911 market in the last 10 years with so many military and LE contracts. I see a big change around the corner however for Colt. With the loss of an 84 mil contract for the M4 to Remington a few months ago they can now concentrate on the civilan market. Jim

Colt does not have the production capacity to make more guns than it is making, so any new model just means fewer of another model.

The M4 is made by Colt Defense, a different company, in a different plant, so that will have no effect on production capacity of the Model O by the commercial division.

What size groups do you get at 25 yards? I'm curious to compare them to custom built target .45s.
The new National Match is a superb shooter at 50 ft (rt target) and 25 yards. It needs no accuracy work under 25 yards. This one has only had a trigger job (4 lbs, CMP legal) at the custom shop. It groups as well as my Hoag accurized service pistol at 25 yards.

At 50 yards (below) it has a slight tendency to string its groups. This would be cured with a TIGHT bushing. All targets shot one-handed, with GI Match ball. 10 shot groups.

Thanks for the targets. The accuracy compares favorably to the armorer-built weapons I used ages ago when assigned to the MTU. As for stringing at 50 yard slow fire....*laff*...I string my groups at that distance
