Please recommend a red dot scope for my REM 700

New to deer hunting this year at the tender age of 57. Would like to ask my friends here at the forum what they might recommend in a red dot rifle scope for my Remington 700 ADL, wood stock, .270 cal deer gun.
I have vision issues and have found I do better, at least with my shotguns, with red dot scopes.
Can a fairly good quality red dot rifle scope (and mounts) be done for under $300 or so not including gunsmith fees for mounting it?
In general, I will be using this rifle for deer hunting and would anticipate here in PA where I will be hunting I will generally be in in the 150 yards or less range, and likely mostly in the 100 yards or less range.
Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

In a red dot , the Tasco PDP-2 is a proven reliable sight for under $100 .
If you're looking for a lighted reticle scope there are several company's offering them for $150 or so . Might give you a better sight picture .

Re: Red Dot mounting

Most Red Dot optics mount on a weaver type rail. Your Rem. 700 should be drilled and tapped. So it is a simple matter to just mount a weaver rail to your already drilled holes into the reciever. Most will use a screw locking compound such as locktight blue or harder when mounting the screws. Then clamp the red dot onto the rail with the supplied clamp. You can save ammo buy removing your bolt and having the gun on a rest and looking through the barrel and then adjusting the red dot to the place where your barrel is pointed. Now you are bore sighted. Good luck.

Re: Red Dot mounting

Hmmmf..I'd be hard pressed to suggest any red dot sight for a rifle capable of the accuracy of a 700. I would point you in the direction of a standard rifle scope with an illuminated reticle. Those can be had for the $300 range easily. Mount it yourself..The only way to get something done right is to do it yourself. That's been my experience! Mounting a scope is something every rifle shooter should learn. It is very easy, once you do it, you'll see what I mean. Just order a Scope base for a Rem 700 be it a Weaver, redfield, williams, etc. Then order the scope rings for the base (weaver, redfield, etc) Make sure all parts are degreased including the screw holes, use blue loctite on the base screws that hold base to the reciever and put everything together according to the directions with the proper sized screwdriver and you're in like Flynn. Getting the crosshairs straight is trial and error. I have found even if you pay a smith to put the thing on..it'll somehow need to be adjusted to suit you so just do it yourself.
