Would like some opinions from the members.
I am the current caretaker of a Colt Government Model SN:34xxx. Best I can tell birthed in 1914. Wonderful gun, shoot it often (with mid-range semi-wad cutters only) and it would be my pick if I could only own one pistol.

Here's my question, while mechanically totally sound, metal in wonderful smooth shape, the bluing on the slide near the muzzle is worn but no pitting, also the bluing on the metal on front of hand-grip is near worn off. All the lettering is perfect, the edges are not worn, the hammer is a beautiful piece of art and the safety and mag-release have that perfect cross checking colt did then. SHOULD I SEND IT TO COLT AND HAVE THEM RE-BLUE IT? Doesn't really need any buffing (unless that is necessary to remove old blue). I paid a fair amount for this, don't intend to sell it at all if I can help it, so should I or shouldn't I.

Does having Colt do the Re-blue cause the same drop in valuation as having just a gunsmith do it?

All thoughts are welcome.

Thanks for your input.
