Looking to try and find out more about these ivory grips. Alot of patina and checking, and the medallions are certainly very old. Are these prewar? Pre A1? Any experts in here?
They had aftermarket medallions back then? Those are the later style Colt medallion. Pony looking backwards on right side.
Don't appear to be Colt made.
So pre '24 both ponies face forward toward the end of the barrel? Can't tell exactly, but certainly post 1924 or thereabouts. That is when Colt quit using the right medallion that has the rampant Colt facing forward also. Decent looking set of stocks!
So, you are saying these are factory grips from the 1930’s?Apparently, there is not a lot of info on original COLT supplied Ivory Stocks for the Model 'O' Series Pistols. And, apparently they are Rare ! Goddard lists GM Pistols, up through about 1930, that shipped with Ivory (Pistols, that He Found, that noted Ivory in the COLT records). Also, there is info on COLT supplied Ivory here: Colt Pistols and Revolvers for Firearms Collectors - Government Model .45 ACP , here: Colt Government Model National Match .45 ACP Collectors Information - Coltautos.com , here: Colt Ace .22 LR Pistol Photos and Information - Coltautos.com , here: Colt Pistols and Revolvers for Firearms Collectors - Service Model Ace .22 LR Collector's Information , and here: Colt Super .38 Pistol Photos and Information - Coltautos.com .
There was a recent Thread (on another Forum) that documented another set of COLT supplied Ivory that were assembled and shipped in June 1927 (that are Not noted in Goddard ?). Those Ivory Stocks are Sans medallions, and have a very similar profile cut-out for the MSH Pin.
