Just purchased a 4 1/2" new Python PY275777. It is engraved (looks machine engraved) but I'm going to shoot this gun for sure. It just doesn't seem to be something that I think will ever be worth much more than I paid for it so it will see some range duty from time to time. Now I have two of the snake guns. A Python and an Anaconda.

Joined to add my numbers to the project, picked up my 4.25" today. SN: PY2739XX, DOM 11/14/22. Proofs on the crane are a single V and the VP Triangle.

I'm also curious what the signifince of the RA serial prefixes is.. Anybody know?

My understanding is that there was a foul up between Colt and the BATFE on approved serial numbers…the law is all firearms must have a unique serial number…and Colt unable to use “PY” as a prefix for a period of time so they substituted “RA” which was already approved.

There’s nothing different about the gun beyond the number. I imagine down the road there will be someone trying to sell their “rare variation” of the Python for a premium.

Any idea of timeline that the RA series was made? The Colt SN site doesn't recognize it. I'm looking to find RA341675 birthdate, or there abouts.

If the gun still has the silver tag around the trigger guard the QA code has the date…not sure but it’s probably the packaging date which should be within a day or so of the actual build date. A QA reader on a smart phone can decode it.

Since Colt and Colt Archives Services are separate bunnies entities current serial number information is not immediately or automatically shared.

Thank you. Sadly, I've come to the age where QA codes, apps, the Kardashians and many others things are beyond my desire to learn about them :D

So to catch me up is the PY prefix now a RA prefix somewhere around or before number 3000 produced

Purchased 8/29/23 3" Serial PY329968 Born on date: 6/26/23
Note - Twisdit gun bought 9/1/23 w/S/N starting with PY320xxx vs. your S/N PY329xxx bought 3 days prior. You would think the 3rd digit's should be reversed.

Take a photo clearly showing the QR code on the tag and post it here. Someone here can use the app on their phone to decode it.
