I am dating myself but have carried pistols and revolvers on my ankle for 50 years. Still do! I started using them for a backup gun, now i use them almost exclusively.
1st. Get a good holster that attaches to your ankle. My latest holster secures to your ankle via velcro. I use Ken Null holsters, Resaca Ga. They are hand made and pricey but my oldest holster is serviceable, still used and 40 years old. Hes the best.
2, if you are right handed, the holster goes on the left ankle. The pistol sits on the quadrant behind your ankle bone.
3. For the first couple of days it will be awkward. Then you will not notice it. The holster cannot flop around on your ankle.
4. Seated in a car it is the fastest way to get to your wespon. . Seatbelts render cross draw and shoulder rigs awkward.
5. I have used them with SW midel 36s, D-Frame Colts, Colt Officers Model and Commander length. Weight is not a real factor with a quality holster. Horsehide is the
most durable. Currently i use a Null holster with a Staccato C and a Tisas carry. Null holsters have no retention strap. The formed leather keeps the pistol secure. I’ve never had an issue.
